Intervention Outline of students’ self-learning materials development:
Title: “Voices of Diversity in Theatre: Exploring Race and Learning Strategies”
Objective:
To create a series of engaging, one-minute self-shot videos featuring theatre practitioners from diverse racial backgrounds discussing their race identity and sharing their unique learning strategies. These materials will serve as self-learning resources for theatre studies students, fostering greater awareness, inclusivity, and understanding within the discipline.
Key Components:
- Recruitment of Practitioners:
- Invite 30 theatre practitioners from a range of racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ensure representation of underrepresented groups to highlight a spectrum of experiences.
- Video Content Guidelines:
- Practitioners self-shoot videos to maintain authenticity and personal touch.
- Each video (1 minute in length) includes:
- A brief introduction of the practitioner and their racial/ethnic identity.
- A personal story or reflection on how their race has influenced their journey in theatre.
- A learning strategy or advice for theatre students, grounded in their lived experience.
- Social Media Campaign on TikTok for wider impacts:
- Publish videos exclusively on TikTok to maximise accessibility and engagement with students.
- Encourage theatre studies students to interact with the content by creating prompts for reflection and discussion.
- Leverage TikTok’s unique features (e.g., trending hashtags, challenges) to sustain attention and interest.
- Pedagogical Intervention:
- The videos will function as a reflective self-learning tool, enabling students to engage with diverse perspectives.
- By viewing personal stories and learning strategies, students can contextualise theatre studies with critical race perspectives.
- Encourage students to create their own reflections, sparking peer-to-peer dialogue and critical inquiry.
